The Materials

Do you use Genuine Leather?

NO! Never in a million years would I ever use Genuine Leather!

Contrary to popular belief, genuine leather is actually the lowest quality of leather, often made from layers of lower-grade or bonded leather. To put it simply, “Genuine Leather” is a purely
marketing term used to imply authenticity, but it is a vague and misleading label that does not guarantee high quality or premium leather.

I only use Full Grain Leather, which is the highest quality of leather. It is considered so because it retains the natural grain, strength, and durability of the original hide, making it exceptionally resilient and long-lasting.

Do you use Vegan Leather?

The short answer is no, I do not.

While my disdain for genuine leather is far stronger,  I still have reservations about vegan leather. It is necessary to know that real Vegan leather (sic) does not exist. It is a purely marketing term and any material that is not of animal origin can be labelled as ‘vegan’.

It is important to realize that the ‘vegan’ tag does not necessarily mean ‘natural’, ‘green’ or ‘sustainable’, nor does it necessarily provide the same wear and durability qualities as real leather.

For more info, we invite you to read the following short article: https://www.leathernaturally.org/news-events/news/what-is-vegan-leather/

Is the leather Ethically sourced?

Yes, it is!

I only work with tanneries that can prove that they ethically source their leather. Whether by only choosing tanneries that are members of the Italian Leather Consortium, or by only working with exotic tanneries that can provide CITES Certificates such as American Tanning, or by only partnering with tanneries that only use bi-products of the food industry such as Ictyos, I make sure that I never purchase a single sqm of leather that has not been ethically sourced.

How accurate are the colors shown on the website?

The actual color of the leather product may differ slightly from what is shown on the pictures due to various factors. These include variations in monitor settings, such as color and brightness, as well as the natural characteristics of leather. Each piece of leather absorbs dye differently, and sometimes additional dye or natural oils are needed to achieve a balanced color, which may result in a slightly darker shade.

What leather do you recommend? (And why is it Salmon Skin?)?

I meticulously select the leathers I work with, so obviously, I would recommend any of them.

However, I have a special place in my heart for Unfinished Salmon Skin. For me, it perfectly combines luxury and the patina associated with heirloom leather goods.

The Orders

What is your return policy?

I have a 3 days return policy on my One-Off Creations collection. Items have to of course be in the original packaging, unused, unblemished with proof of purchase.

All “Bespoke” items sales are final.

I invite you to read the full Return and Refund Policy at this link: https://faratelier.com/policies/refund-policy

Why are you processing times?

For One-Off Creations items, processing time is usually 2 working days.

For Bespoke items, it is a case by case issue depending on material availability and project’s complexity. The processing time for your Bespoke order will be clearly stated before your invoice is sent to you.

Do you offer worldwide shipping?

With the exception of one specific country, I offer worldwide shipping.

Do you provide tracking?

Yes. Wether with regular post, DHL or Aramex, all orders will have a tracking number.

What happens if I do not receive my shipment?

You will get to choose one of three options:

  • You can exchange it for any item of similar value from the in-Stock collection.
  • Full refund including the cost of shipping
  • I remake the same item for you as a rush order, providing the materials are still available.
Can I ask for initials personalization on an item from the In-Stock Creations collection?

If there is an option to add a Personalisation in the product page, then yes. If there isn’t, then no.

The reason why some items cannot be personalized is because of how they are constructed and how the construction will prevent me from making a clean crisp print of them item once assembled.

Do the sunglasses come for free with the Glasses Case(s)? What about the 10$ bill in the picture?

No, they do not!

Unless explicitly otherwise stated, when purchasing a product you will only get the leather item in the pictures.

Leather Care

Are your items repairable/serviceable?

Yes, they are.

Unless explicitly stated in the item’s description, all my items are serviceable within reason.

What it means is that is the item can be restitched, edges can be re-burnished/repainted and the leather can be reconditioned.

What I am not responsible for, for example, is if your dog uses your wallet as a chew toy.

How do I take of my leather goods?

All my items are shipped with a Leather Care Card Instruction.

But to be brief: keep it away from moisture, brush it when dust and debris accumulates on it and condition it when you feel that the leather is drying up.

What care products do you recommend?

It greatly depends on the item and the leather itself, but in general, I am a big fan of Chamberlain’s leather milk, specially Formula No 3.

N.B: Always test on a small area first and use sparingly.

General Questions

Do you do coorporate/wholesale orders?

No, I currently do not.

I do everything by hand; so even though it means I make higher quality items than machine assisted productions do, it also means it takes longer and costs more to make.

Which is usually not what a corporation or a retailer is looking for.

The Inappropriate Questions

Why are you so expensive?

I am not…

Can I haggle for the price?

We live in a free country (or as close to it as we will ever do), so yes you most definitely can.

However, a mouse trying to safely land a spaceship on the surface of a black hole would have a better chance at succeeding than you do.

Will you copy another craftsman design for me?

No, I will not.

I will never copy another craftsman’s design.

The only exception I make is for the recreation of old items that carry a sentimental value to their owners. And if, and only if, the original craftsman is unavailable to make them.

X charges cheaper for a similar product, can you sell me yours at the same price?

Nope.

But you can always ask X to sell you his product at my price point, that would be fair to them.

Are you better than this or that craftsman?
  • No, I am not.
  • What kind of question is that anyway?
